The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a New Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The speculation about this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing implies that the team could be crafting a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it sparked the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, branching plots, and flexible progression—qualities that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve if you're playing as a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, allowing players to improvise both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be solved in a variety of manners, frequently in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can get ready for more where that came from in this groundbreaking franchise.
